The Hun

The Hun are among the most enigmatic and imposing creatures encountered in the New World. Standing an average of 15 meters tall, these giants are rarely seen, and almost always from a distance. Colonists and explorers alike describe them as awe-inspiring, unsettling presences that dominate the mountainous landscapes where they dwell.

Physical Description

The Hun are colossal beings whose bodies resemble weathered stone. Their skin is rough, gray, and often covered in lichen and moss, which has led some observers to mistake them for moving boulders or fragments of mountain ridges. Their eyes, when visible, are said to emit a faint glow at night, flickering like embers through mist and darkness.

Despite their immense size, their movement is awkward and uncoordinated. Witnesses describe them as swaying, stumbling, or dragging their limbs as if gravity itself weighed them down. Yet, each step they take resonates like thunder through the valleys, shaking the ground beneath them.

Behavior

Hun are never observed alone. They travel in groups—sometimes three, sometimes six or more—moving slowly and seemingly without clear purpose. Their communication remains mysterious: explorers report deep hums, vibrations felt more than heard, and occasional guttural noises that echo among the peaks.

They display no interest in humans, settlements, or expeditions. Entire caravans have crossed their path without drawing even a glance. This indifference, however, only deepens the unease they inspire: to be so insignificant in the presence of something so vast unsettles even the bravest.

Habitat

Hun are found exclusively in high mountain ranges of the New World. They have never been sighted in valleys, near water, or in the dense forests that cover much of the continent. Their preference for sheer cliffs and snow-capped ridges has led many to associate them with the bones of the earth itself.

Numbers and Organization

The true population of the Hun is unknown. Some expeditions report seeing only a handful; others claim entire mountain chains harbor dozens. There is no evidence of settlements, tools, or structures. Whether they are nomadic, migratory, or simply eternal wanderers is a matter of speculation.

Interpretations and Theories

Colonial scholars and native traditions offer wildly different explanations:

Guardians of the Peaks: some believe the Hun exist to protect the highest mountains from intrusion.

Spirits of Stone: others claim they are not flesh at all, but animated fragments of the earth.

The Last Titans: a popular theory suggests they are remnants of an ancient, giant race that once ruled the world.

The name Hun itself has uncertain origins. To some, it echoes an old word for “enemy”; to others, it means “shadow” or “silence” in forgotten dialects.

Relations with Colonists

Although they have never attacked or even acknowledged human presence, the Hun inspire fear and superstition. Entire villages near mountain passes have been abandoned after a sighting, and many colonists whisper that watching a Hun for too long invites misfortune.

Yet, despite their mystery and menace, the Hun remain objects of fascination rather than hatred. Travelers who have glimpsed them often describe a sense of reverence, as if they had witnessed something older and larger than human history itself.
